What is a “Drive-Off”?
A “Drive-Off” occurs when a customer pumping gas forgets to remove the gas nozzle from their vehicle, and then drives away pulling the hose off of the pump.
The average “low volume” gas station experiences 3-4 “Drive-Off” incidents per month, each resulting in a financial loss to the gas station owner and/or customer.
This accident can cost the customer and/or gas station owner an average of $300-$1,000 per incident, in order to replace the “break-away” device that connects the hose to the pump. This does not include potential damage to the car, damage to station property, customer embarrassment, toxic chemicals being exposed (environmental harm), and a never ending possibility of other safety issues or costs.
